If you have fallen behind on your mortgage payments, or are at risk of falling behind, we invite you to meet with one of our HUD-approved housing counselors to help you address the problem.
Foreclosure continues to be a significant problem both at the national and local level. Our goal is to help reduce the local foreclosure rates by helping struggling homeowners to explore other options. Mortgage companies are recognizing that all parties tend to lose when a foreclosure takes place. They are becoming increasingly willing to consider workout options. Even if the homeowner cannot afford to stay in the home, there are better alternatives than foreclosure. Foreclosure is seldom inevitable or desirable. Let us help you find other options A housing counselor will help you assess your current situation, and clarify your housing goals. The counselor can overview the mortgage workout options available to you and explain their various advantages and disadvantages. We’ve found that knowing how to deal with the mortgage company is a key part of successful mortgage workout counseling. Our counselors will coach you on how to get through to the right branch of the mortgage company, and prepare you to meet the mortgage company’s expectations. CCOA’s housing counselors can coach you on how to deal with your mortgage company, or speak to them on your behalf. Perhaps most importantly, our mortgage delinquency counseling is provided at no cost to the homeowners. No doubt, you’ve seen services advertised on TV, or possibly you’ve been contacted by a for-profit “mortgage rescue” operation. Their services can cost you from $600 to $1,500 out-of-pocket. Our mortgage delinquency counseling services are supported by various federal and private grants, so that we do not have to charge homeowners for these services.
