Credit Counselor

CCOA is seeking a caring financial professional for its office in Fort Smith. CCOA financial counselors help clients address financial issues and create a plan of action to reach their financial goals. Additionally, financial counselors provide financial education throughout the community in conjunction with partner organizations. CCOA financial counselors are supported by a team of experienced supervisors, peers and client service representatives. The position offers flexible hours and on the job training.

Position Location: Fort Smith, Arkansas

Position Concept:  Provides counseling and educational services to clients in the areas of budgeting, credit education and the Debt Repayment Program.  Analyzes individual situations and develops innovative solutions for clients that are financially challenged.

Organizational Relationship:

  • Reports to:  Director of Counseling
  • Supervises:  None


  • Education:  Bachelor’s Degree strongly desired
  • Experience:  Finance, Credit Management, Personal Finance strongly desired

Skill:  Works harmoniously with staff, works independently while being team oriented, is organized, has good problem solving ability, is detail oriented, listens and communicates effectively. Able to summarize and document counseling session discussions. 

Equipment:  Includes but not limited to:  telephone, computer, copy machine, fax machine, printers, ten key and shredder.

Supervision Required:  Acts independently.

Specific Duties:

  1. Maintains current accurate company records and statistics.
  2. Participates in CCOA Public Relations strategies.
  3. Counsels clients on financial problems being responsive to urgent needs, and always keeping clients’ best interest in mind.
  4. Contacts creditors on behalf of clients when needed.
  5. Refers clients to available social services when appropriate.
  6. Maintains prompt follow-up procedures regarding client interviews and Debt Repayment Program participation.
  7. Participates in Education Seminars as directed.
  8. Conducts periodic reviews of Debt Repayment Program client files.
  9. Completes Case Action Plan for every client counseled.
  10. Maintains accurate client files including all documentation needed for the Debt Repayment Program.
